Near Brighstone, Grammar’s Common, with its dense, almost impenetrable woodland and ancient Black Barrow is an unusual place and well worth a visit.
John Osborn's father bought Grammar's Common in 2018. John is now researching the history of the place and developing a management plan.
He has completed clearance of the Black Barrow so visitors can now see it and will be working in the woods from 9-4pm during the festival near the Black Barrow so that locals and visitors can come talk to him about the woodland, how he is managing it and see the beautiful views.
He says: There is a glade I’ve created and the butterfly corridor has been sufficiently widened so the area for the butterflies has increased. Also there is the Black Barrow which has been cleared so people can have a walk up and around that, it’s a very nice spot.
